According to local people, Surendra Singh, a member of Janata Mazdoor Sangh, slept in his room on Monday night. When he did not wake up for a long time on Tuesday morning, his family members tried to wake him up. Seeing no movement in his body, the family members hurriedly took him to Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), where doctors declared him dead. Local people claim that he died due to suffocation due to the poisonous gas spreading in the area. However, the exact cause of death will be known only after the post mortem report comes.

Former MLA met the victim’s family
Here, as soon as information about the incident was received, former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh reached the hospital. He consoled the victim’s family and took the BCCL management to task. He said that the problem of gas leakage is years old. But the management is only busy in paperwork. There are no proper security arrangements on the ground, due to which innocent people are losing their lives.
Questions on the working style of management
Local resident Mohammad Zahid has also raised questions on the working style of the management. He says that so far 6 boring holes have been done to stop gas leakage. But nitrogen filling has been done in only 2. The work being done at this snail’s pace is not showing any positive results and people are forced to live under the shadow of death.
