The Election Commission had started the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of voter list in the state on November 4. According to the data, till October 27, 2025, the total number of registered voters in the state was 15.44 crore. Now after SIR investigation, names of about 2.89 crore people will be deleted from these voters. Out of the 2.89 crore voters whose names will be removed from the voter list, there are 1.26 crore voters who are no longer voters of that area because they have started living at some other place. There are about 1.11 crore voters who are in the ‘unmapped’ category. Notices will be sent to such people to submit any one of the 12 documents which have been declared valid by the Election Commission so that their name can be included in the ‘mapped’ category and their name can be included in the final voter list.

Along with UP, the Election Commission had also introduced SIR in the states and union territories of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep. Earlier on December 11, the dates of voter list special intensive revision (SIR) campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Union Territory Andaman and Nicobar were revised and the last date was extended.
