Stock market continues to decline: Sensex closed with slight loss
Mumbai. There was a slight decline in the stock market on Tuesday in light trading before the end of the year. Continued capital outflows by foreign institutional investors and a subdued trend in global stock markets weighed on investor sentiment. BSE’s benchmark index Sensex based on 30 shares fell for the fifth consecutive day and closed at 84,675.08 points, down 20.46 points or 0.02 per cent.
During trading, the Sensex reached a high of 84,806.99 and a low of 84,470.94. A total fluctuation of 336.05 points was seen in it. Whereas NSE’s 50-share index Nifty closed stable at 25,938.85 points with a nominal decline of 3.25 points or 0.01 percent. Among Sensex constituents, Eternal, Infosys, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, HCL Tech and Titan were major losers.
On the other hand, gainers included Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv and Axis Bank. Among other markets in Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index remained in positive territory, while South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei and China’s Shanghai Composite index closed with losses. There was a slight rise in major markets of Europe in afternoon trading.
US markets closed with a decline on Monday. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,759.89 crore on Monday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,643.85 crore. Global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.47 percent at $62.23 a barrel. The Sensex fell by 345.91 points on Monday while the Nifty fell by 100.20 points or 0.38 percent.
