Md Drug Factory Bengaluru Antif Action

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Maharashtra Police has busted three drug manufacturing factories running on the outskirts of Bengaluru city. In this operation, huge quantity of Mephedrone (MD) was seized, the estimated value of which is said to be more than ₹55.88 crore. This entire incident has put the Karnataka government and the police department in an uncomfortable situation, after which three police inspectors were suspended for dereliction of duty.

The suspended officers include Inspector Ramakrishna Reddy of Avalahalli police station, Inspector Chetan Kumar of Kothanur police station and Inspector Shabarish of Bagalur police station. All three have been accused of not taking timely action against illegal activities in their respective areas and serious negligence in duty.

This is not the first time that Maharashtra Police has unearthed drug manufacturing units in Karnataka. Also in July 2025, the Maharashtra Narcotics Unit had busted a large drug factory in Mysuru from where 192 kg of mephedrone, estimated to be worth over ₹390 crore, was recovered. Four local police officers were suspended in that case also.

In the latest action, Maharashtra Police conducted raids at three locations on the outskirts of Bengaluru last Friday. In these raids, Mephedrone was recovered in both solid and liquid forms. After this action, questions started being raised on the Karnataka government. In the initial reaction, State Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara said that Karnataka Police was also involved in this operation. He also claimed that these were not manufacturing units but mere warehouses and the value of the seized material was around ₹1.5 crore and not ₹55.88 crore.

However, as pressure on the case increased, the police administration investigated and fixed responsibility and the three inspectors were suspended.

This entire case is part of a wider operation being conducted by Maharashtra ANTF on the drug supply chain of Mumbai. On December 21, ANTF had arrested Mumbai resident Abdul Khadir Shaikh, from whom 1.5 kg of drugs worth more than ₹1.5 crore were recovered. Prashant Yallappa Patil of Belagavi was detained based on information received from Shaikh, who exposed drug manufacturing units operating in Bengaluru.

On this information, Maharashtra ANTF raided three locations and seized a huge quantity of Mephedrone. Along with this, the alleged kingpin of this racket, Suraj Ramesh Yadav and his associate Malkan Ramlal Bishnoi have also been arrested from Rajasthan.

At present, the investigation of the case is going on and the police agencies of both the states are busy investigating other members of the network and the links of the entire drug supply system.
