What is Happy New Year 2026 Wishes Scam?
This cyber fraud is usually spreading through WhatsApp, SMS and social media platforms. Fraudsters send attractive messages to people, in which it is written ‘Click to see your special New Year gift’ Or open ‘Digital New Year Greeting Card Now’.
As soon as the user clicks on this link or photo, he reaches a fake website or a malicious APK file is downloaded on the phone. This file acts like a virus and gives remote access to the phone to hackers.
Police of many states issued high alert advisory
Police of Bengaluru, Punjab and other states including Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TSCSB) have issued a high-priority alert regarding this scam. Police say that these messages being sent under the guise of festivals are designed for personal data theft and bank fraud.

Police have advised citizens to adopt some important safety guidelines

- Check the identity of the sender: Fraudsters often use profile photos of friends or relatives.
- Be sure to check the URL: Be wary of short links (bit.ly, tinyurl), website ‘ Should start from.
