Deepti Sharma becomes highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is

Deepti Sharma on Tuesday became the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is during the fifth match against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram.

The all-rounder now has 152 wickets in the format, which takes her past Megan Schutt’s tally of 151 wickets. Deepti reached the mark in 130th innings, while Schutt reached the figure in eight fewer innings. Pakistan’s Nida Dar follows in third place with 144 wickets from 152 innings.

Deepti secured the record with the wicket of Nilakshika Silva, who was pinned leg before. Deepti ended the match with one for 28 from four overs as India successfully defended 175 to win the match by 15 runs and complete a 5-0 series sweep.

Radha Yadav is the next best Indian in the list of highest wicket-takers, with 103 wickets in 86 innings. Radha and Deepti are the only two Indian bowlers with more than 100 wickets.

Deepti also has 162 wickets in ODIs and another 20 in Tests. Earlier this year, she had won the Player of the Tournament award in the Women’s ODI World Cup, which India won.
