Last warning of Aadhaar-PAN linking: If not done today, PAN will become inactive from January 1, 2026

Aadhaar PAN Linking Deadline: The year 2025 is now at its final stage and Aadhaar-PAN The linking deadline is just a day away. The Central Government has clearly said that it is mandatory to link Aadhaar and PAN cards by 31 December 2025. If this process is not completed by the stipulated deadline, then your PAN card will be considered inactive from January 1, 2026. This will have a direct impact on your Income Tax Return (ITR), banking services and large financial transactions. In such a situation, it is important that you immediately check your Aadhaar-PAN link status.

Why is Aadhaar-PAN linking important?

Under Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, the government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar and PAN. Those whose Aadhaar-PAN is not linked, their PAN will become invalid from January 1, 2026. This means that you will neither be able to file ITR nor do important things like opening a new bank account, investing or doing high-value transactions. The government has already clarified that this rule will apply equally to all PAN holders, so do not expect any relaxation.

How to check Aadhaar-PAN link status from website

The easiest way to check Aadhaar-PAN link status is through the Income Tax e-filing portal. It is not necessary to login for this. You have to go to the website and select the Link Aadhaar Status option present in Quick Links. Enter your PAN number and Aadhaar number here. As soon as you submit, the status will appear on the screen. If you have done the linking recently, you can also login and see the confirmation from the Dashboard or My Profile section.

For those who do not have internet facility, the government has given the option of SMS. For this, open the message box in mobile and write UIDPAN and send it to 567678 or 56161. Within some time, information related to Aadhaar-PAN linking will come on your mobile. At present there is no separate mobile app for this, but the e-filing website works easily on mobile also.

What to do if Aadhaar-PAN is not linked

If Aadhaar-PAN not linked is visible in the status, then there is no need to panic, but do not delay at all. The linking process can be completed through OTP by visiting the e-filing portal and entering PAN and Aadhaar details. If linking is failing due to difference in name or date of birth, then it will be necessary to make corrections in Aadhaar or PAN first. Keep in mind, if linking is done after December 31, 2025, a fine of Rs 1,000 will have to be paid and it may take 7 to 30 days for the PAN to be activated again.
