Monsoon Update – Heavy rain expected across 7 states for 48 hours, darkness to descend

Heavy Rain Alert: Winter has wreaked havoc in many parts of the country. Falling snow and dense fog have brought life to a standstill. Himachal Pradesh is particularly affected by the harsh winter conditions. Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir are also experiencing severe cold. The impact of the Western Disturbance is now being felt in these regions.

Due to the Western Disturbance, rain and snowfall are expected in several areas. The plains are currently experiencing a cold wave, and its intensity is not expected to decrease. Several states are also under threat of heavy rainfall.

In some parts of South India, heavy rainfall has created a critical situation. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a heavy rain alert has been issued for several states.

States where heavy rainfall is expected

According to the IMD, heavy rain and snowfall are possible in several areas until January 1st. Heavy rain and snowfall are expected in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad. This could lead to an even more severe cold. Besides these regions, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are also expected to experience heavy rainfall for two days due to the Western Disturbance.

Moderate rainfall warnings have been issued for several areas in Western Rajasthan on December 31st and January 1st. Strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour are expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 1st. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in several parts of the islands.

Drizzle expected in parts of Rajasthan.

According to the Meteorological Department, a slight increase in night temperatures is expected in several areas of Rajasthan due to the Western Disturbance. Due to the Western Disturbance, light rain and drizzle are expected in Bikaner, Jodhpur, Ajmer division, and the Shekhawati region on December 31st. Dense fog is also expected in the northern and western parts of the state from January 1st to 3rd. Rainis is expected here as well.

According to the IMD (India Meteorological Department), rain is likely in some parts of South India, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. People have been advised to stay indoors due to the possibility of lightning strikes.
