Sachin Tendulkar will be the target of Virat Kohli, the world record of ‘God of Cricket’ will be broken in the series against New Zealand.
Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli is close to breaking another big record. Virat will complete 28,000 runs in international cricket by scoring just 25 runs in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting from 11 January 2026. With this, he will become the third batsman in the world and will break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of becoming the fastest to score 28,000 runs.
Virat’s current score
Virat Kohli has so far scored 27,975 runs in 623 innings in international cricket. He needs just 25 runs to reach 28,000 runs. If he touches this figure in the first ODI itself, he will easily leave behind Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 644 innings.
Sachin had scored a total of 34,357 runs in his career. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara had added 28,016 runs in 666 innings. This speed of Virat shows that he can achieve even bigger heights in the future.
Third batsman after Sachin and Sangakkara
Only two players have been able to cross the figure of 28,000 runs in international cricket and they are Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. Virat will become the third batsman to achieve this feat. The special thing is that Virat has retired from Test and T20 International, but his influence in ODI remains intact. He is already the batsman who has scored the most centuries in ODIs and has many records in his name.
When and where will India and New Zealand clash?
The New Zealand team will tour India to play three ODIs and five T20 matches. The ODI series will start on January 11 in Vadodara. The second match will be played on 14 January in Rajkot and the third match will be played on 18 January in Indore. After this the T20 series will start from 21st January and will continue till 31st January. This T20 series is important in preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Virat will play in ODI and all eyes will be on his form.
Virat’s amazing achievements
Virat Kohli is called chase master. He has scored more than 50 centuries in ODIs and has rescued the team from difficult situations many times. Even in 2025, he performed brilliantly and broke many records. Now this series is a chance for him to create new history. Fans hope that Virat will soon make this record in his name.
