The year 2025 was neither a celebration of achievements nor a story of defeat for the Bahujan Samaj Party. This was a year of introspection, organizational tightening and laying the chessboard for 2027 for the party. BSP, which was once the pivot of power in Uttar Pradesh, was seen struggling to regain its lost ground in 2025.
However, at the end of the year, the announcement of National Co-ordinator Akash Anand dedicating her daughter to the Bahujan Mission definitely gave personal happiness to party supremo Mayawati.
Year 2025 will be difficult for BSP
According to political analysts, after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the beginning of 2025 was difficult for BSP. The election results raised questions on organization and strategy. BSP had to face the challenge of maintaining political space amidst the strong organization of BJP and aggressive opposition politics of Samajwadi Party.
The party’s performance in the Bihar Assembly elections was also disappointing and it had to be satisfied with just one seat. However, the BSP leadership described the defeat as an opportunity for reconstruction, not a break. The party made it clear that it will neither become anyone’s ‘B-team’ nor be a part of opportunistic alliances.
In 2025, Mayawati again remained at the center of party politics. He reiterated the message in public forums and internal meetings that the basic goal of BSP is the political-social empowerment of Dalits, tribals, backward people and minorities. Rejecting any possibility of compromise with Kanshi Ram’s ideology, Mayawati warned the organization that wavering attitude, factionalism and inaction will no longer be accepted. After this, there was a reshuffle in the officials at the state and divisional level.
Discussion on decisions taken on Akash Anand
In this sequence, the strict decisions taken regarding Akash Anand, his first removal and his return after 41 days indicated that the leadership will not show any leniency on the question of discipline. The biggest weakness of BSP in the year 2025 was the grassroots organization. To correct this, cadre meetings, review meetings and Bahujan Samvad programs were started in the districts. Efforts were made to increase presence on digital and social media, but these efforts remained weak in comparison to BJP and SP.
On the ideological front, BSP clearly kept itself apart. The BJP was accused of weakening the Constitution and having a double standard on reservation, while the Samajwadi Party was accused of neglecting Dalit interests and political opportunism. The party bluntly said that its politics is more about respect and authority than power.
BSP’s strategy decided for 2027
BSP openly used 2025 as preparation for 2027 assembly elections. The leadership indicated that the party will contest the elections independently. There was brainstorming on the strategy to strengthen the process of candidate selection in a timely manner and focus on youth and women voters along with caste equations.
However, no major movement has yet been seen at the grassroots level from which a decisive lead can be claimed. Politically, the biggest challenge was the party’s traditional Dalit vote bank. BJP’s social schemes and political representation made inroads into this class, which became a cause of concern for BSP.
Despite this, in some areas the emotional connection of the Dalit community is still visible with the party, which the leadership is considering as the foundation of the future. But, opposition parties Congress and SP are keeping their eyes on this vote bank. Most of all SP is trying hard to bring this vote bank to itself. For this, she has formed Ambedkar Vahini and is continuously running the movement.
2025 was a year of introspection for BSP
Political analyst Virendra Singh Rawat says that overall, 2025 was a year of struggle and introspection for the BSP. This neither became the turning point of revival nor the seal of decline. Even today, BSP is full of possibilities in the politics of Uttar Pradesh, but is surrounded by challenges. The real test will be in 2027, but this year the crowd gathered at Kanshiram’s rally has given him life, due to which the organization has once again got oxygen.
