She led the party for decades shaping Bangladesh’s political landscape with her firm leadership and her son Tarique Rahman, BNP’s acting chairperson announced her passing that she died at 6 AM on 30 December at Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital.
What are the Funeral Arrangements
Khaleda Zia’s funeral will be held on today with the Namaz-e-Janaza scheduled after Zohr Prayer at 2 PM at the Parliament’s South Plaza and Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka. She will be buried at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, next to her husband with full state honours. Security is being strictly enforced including road closure and deployment of ASF, PGR, BGB, RAB and Police.
Massive Turnout at Khaleda Zia’s Funeral Prayer
Khaleda Zia’s body arrived at her Gulshan Residence, Firoza where family and close relatives offered final respects. From there her body will be taken to the Parliament grounds for the state funeral.
Her motorcade departed Tarique Rahman’s Gulshan residency at 11:04 AM, accompanied by family members including Tarique Rahman, Zubaida Rahman and other close relative along with a red and green BNP bus.

BNP secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, alongside several advisors to the interim government signed condolence books and expressed their grief. Political figures and party members gathered to honour Khaleda Zia’s legacy with demonstrating the nation’s respect for her contributions.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar Arrives in Dhaka
India’s External Foreign Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday morning to pay respects. He was received at the Bangladesh Air Force Base by Foreign Ministry Secretary M Farhad Hossain symbolising the close diplomatic ties between the two countries.
