The issue gained further momentum when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj shared Devkinandan Thakur’s video on social media and linked it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now this matter is not limited to just IPL and KKR, but has come to the center of politics, diplomacy and religious sentiments.
KKR bought Mustafizur Rahman for 9.20 crores
IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, owned by Shahrukh Khan, made a huge bid of Rs 9.20 crore on Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the mini auction. This decision has come at a time when voices are being raised continuously in India regarding the alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Devkinandan Thakur’s open warning
Narrator Devkinandan Thakur gave a direct warning to KKR and Shahrukh Khan during a meeting. He said that ‘until the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh do not stop, their players have no right to play in India and earn money from here.’ He further alleged that “We have heard that that player is very fond of Pakistan. We have heard that he has great love for such people who hurt Hindus.”
‘Exclude the player immediately’- Devkinandan Thakur
Devkinandan Thakur said in a stern tone from the stage, ‘If you love Hindus, if you love India, if you are also saddened by the burning of that six-year-old girl, then Mr. KKR, expel that Bangladeshi player from the team… expel him immediately. He also warned, “If that player remains in your team, we will be forced to boycott your team and send him back from India to Bangladesh.”

Devkinandan Thakur further said, “Mr. KKR, don’t forget that Indians have made you a hero. The one who can make a hero can also make a zero.” Referring to the amount of Rs 9.20 crore, he said that questions should be raised on where this money will go and what will be its use.
Saurabh Bhardwaj’s counterattack, raised questions on PM Modi
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj, while sharing the video of Devkinandan Thakur on X (formerly Twitter), wrote that ‘Baba is very angry with the presence of a Bangladeshi player in Shahrukh Khan’s IPL team.’ After this he raised the question, “But Baba does not say a single word about PM Modi, who has given shelter to former Bangladesh PM ‘Sheikh Hasina’ for years.”
Saurabh Bhardwaj further wrote that ‘When we accuse Bangladesh of sending infiltrators to India, then why do we host their PM from 2009 to 2024? Mustafizur Rahman’s entry into KKR is no longer just a cricketing decision. This issue is linked to religious sentiments, India-Bangladesh relations and domestic politics. In the coming days, it will be interesting to see what stand KKR, BCCI and political parties take on this controversy.
