Before the New Year celebrations, police vigil has increased on the streets of the country’s capital Delhi. Delhi Traffic Police was seen checking vehicles till late night in Connaught Place, considered to be the heart of Delhi. The traffic police officer said that by making a checkpoint, every suspicious vehicle is stopped and the drivers are being tested for alcohol with the help of breath analyzer and alcohol meter machines. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, a fine of up to Rs 10,000 is being imposed on drivers found drunk for drunk driving.

The challan is issued when the reading in the alcohol meter is 30 or above. If a drunk driver is alone, his car can also be confiscated.
