Stirred by delivery boys’ strike! Now Zomato-Swiggy started a new move, made a big announcement
Gig workers protest on New Year: Amidst the New Year celebrations, any immediate delivery of goods online may put you in big trouble. Gig workers unions across the country have announced a mega strike on December 31, i.e. New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, now giant companies like Zomato and Swiggy have opened their treasury to find a solution to the strike. Companies have announced huge incentives and increased payments to retain their delivery partners at work, so that the service does not come to a halt on the busiest day of the year.
It is believed that this strike will have a direct impact on services like Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit and Zepto. Labor organizations like TGPWU and IFAT claim that more than 1.7 lakh delivery workers have confirmed joining the strike. Workers are angry about their steadily falling earnings, safety risks on the road and extremely difficult working conditions. However, spokespersons of the companies say that increasing incentives on festivals is their normal process, which they adopt every year.
Rain of notes and special offers
Zomato has presented a tremendous offer to woo its riders. During peak hours i.e. between 6 pm and 12 midnight, riders can earn Rs 120 to Rs 150 per order. Additionally, a rider can earn up to Rs 3,000 depending on the number of orders throughout the day. The special thing is that the penalty for canceling or refusing an order has also been temporarily removed. At the same time, Swiggy has also not lagged behind and has given the opportunity to earn up to Rs 10,000 on 31st December and 1st January. Swiggy riders will be able to earn up to Rs 2,000 in just the 6-hour peak window of New Year’s Eve.

Politics heats up, MP’s support
This fight of gig workers has now taken political significance as well. Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha has expressed his full solidarity towards the delivery workers. He appealed to the management of the companies to listen to the problems of the workers and take care of them. Chadha said that these people work in all seasons, so their demands are legitimate and companies should think about their socio-economic security. The unions have made it clear that this movement is not just for money, but for respect and rights.
