President Tinubu offers support after fatal collision
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is currently recovering in a Nigerian hospital after surviving a fatal car accident on Monday, December 29, 2025.
The crash occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV, in which Joshua was traveling, reportedly lost control and struck a parked truck.
While Joshua sustained minor injuries and is in stable condition, the boxing world is mourning the loss of two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who tragically died at the scene.

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, personally reached out to the boxer to offer his support. In a shared statement on X, the President said:
“I spoke with AJ on the phone to personally convey my condolences over the death of his two associates. I wished him well and prayed for him.”
President Tinubu also spoke with Joshua’s mother and the Governor of Ogun State, who has been present at the hospital.

The President added, “I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident.
As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline and unwavering love for our country.”
Fans worldwide continue to flood social media with “Get Well” messages as Joshua remains under observation.
