New Year’s gift… PNG becomes cheaper in Delhi-NCR

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a major reduction in the prices of domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for the consumers of Delhi and NCR before welcoming the New Year. The company has reduced the prices of PNG by Rs 0.70 per standard cubic meter (SCM).

New price of PNG in Delhi

After this deduction, the new price of PNG in Delhi will be Rs 47.89 per SCM. Whereas in Gurugram it will be Rs 46.70, while in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad it will be Rs 47.76 per SCM. IGL operates City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in 30 districts in 11 regions of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.

What is the goal of the government?

The government aims to provide a total of 12.5 crore PNG connections in rural and urban areas by 2030. Many poor families in India still use coal, wood and cow dung cakes for cooking, which is harmful for health and also harmful for the environment. Facilities like PNG and LPG provide a solution to this problem. Till the last few years, LPG cylinders were available only to the better income groups in urban and semi-urban areas.

There are many benefits of taking a PNG connection. Gas is continuously supplied through pipes, hence there is no hassle of changing or refilling the cylinder. This is a safer and more economical option as it involves lower transportation and handling costs. Constant availability of gas at home makes cooking easier and also saves time for consumers.

PNG connection distribution is an important part of the development of city gas distribution network. This is done as per the Minimum Work Program (MWP) targets and techno-commercial feasibility set by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The expansion of PNG enables collaboration between governments and companies to deliver clean gas to rural and urban areas, improving health, safety and comfort levels.

relief on consumers’ pockets

This new price cut will also provide relief to consumers’ pockets and the expansion of PNG connections will further accelerate. Such a step will not only increase access to energy but will also reduce the negative impact on the environment.
