Tragic! Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza hit by heartbreaking personal loss
NEW DELHI: Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza is going through a deeply painful period after the passing of his younger brother, Muhammad Mahdi, Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Tuesday.
Mahdi died in Harare on December 29, 2025, at the age of 13. He was born with haemophilia, a rare condition that affects blood clotting, and succumbed to health complications linked to the illness. He was laid to rest the following day at Warren Hills Cemetery.
In a heartfelt statement, Zimbabwe Cricket expressed its condolences to Raza and his family, offering prayers for strength and peace during this time of grief.

Raza, one of Zimbabwe’s most respected cricketers, has received an outpouring of support from the global cricketing community, with tributes continuing to pour in as the sport pauses to acknowledge a human tragedy.
The loss comes shortly after a career milestone for Raza, who rose to the top of the ICC T20I all rounder rankings last month following consistent performances in the recent tri series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
