Foreign Minister S Jaishankar arrives in Bangladesh; PM Modi’s personal letter handed over to Tariq Rehman
EAM S Jaishankar arrives in Dhaka: Former Bangladesh PM Begum Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest today i.e. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, from the Indian side, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has reached Dhaka to pay tribute to Khaleda Zia, where he met Khaleda’s son and acting president of BNP, Tariq Rehman. During this, the Indian Foreign Minister also handed over a personal letter from PM Modi to Rahman.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared pictures of his meeting with Tariq Rehman on social media platform X on Wednesday. Along with this he wrote, “On arrival in Dhaka, met Tariq Rahman, Acting Chairman of BNP and son of former Bangladesh PM Begum Khaleda Zia. Handed him a personal letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India. Expressed confidence that the vision and values of Begum Khaleda Zia will guide the development of our partnership.”

Let us tell you that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia was on ventilator for 20 days. Bangladesh’s first woman Prime Minister and BNP chief Khaleda Zia has passed away. 80-year-old Khaleda, who was ill for a long time, breathed her last on Tuesday morning. Khaleda was suffering from chest infection, liver, kidney, diabetes, arthritis and eye problems for the last several years.
Indian PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed condolences on the demise of Zia Khaleda. “Deeply saddened to know about the demise of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka. Our deepest condolences to her family and all the people of Bangladesh. May God give her family the strength to bear this loss. As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her significant contribution to the development of Bangladesh as well as India-Bangladesh relations will always be remembered,” PM Modi wrote in an ex-post.
PM Modi further wrote, “I remember my warm meeting with him in Dhaka in 2015. We hope that his thinking and legacy will continue to guide our partnership. May his soul rest in peace.”
