Quitting their daily wages and going on strike is not their hobby, but an economic compulsion…Ashok Gehlot said on gig workers
Gig Workers Strike: Preparations for New Year celebrations have started across the country. Before the New Year celebrations, gig workers have announced a nationwide strike on December 31. New Year celebrations may get overshadowed due to gig workers’ strike. Now the statement of Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has come on this.

He wrote on social media: Today, when the whole country is busy in preparations to welcome the New Year, our gig workers (delivery partners) are forced to go on strike. These are the workers who run their household by earning money every day, yet on the day when they are likely to get more orders, giving up their daily wages and going on strike is not their hobby, but an economic compulsion.
Ashok Gehlot further wrote, Gig workers met Rahul Gandhi during Bharat Jodo Yatra and presented their pain to him. Understanding their plight, on the initiative of Rahul Gandhi, our Congress government had passed the country’s first ‘Rajasthan Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Act, 2023’, so that they can get social security.
It is unfortunate that due to the indifference of the present government in implementing that historic law, today these workers have to struggle for their rights. The state government should immediately make rules for this law and implement it in accordance with its basic spirit and provide relief to them. He further wrote, on the lines of Rajasthan, the Congress government of Karnataka made a law for gig workers. The Government of India should also make such a law on the lines of Rajasthan so that they can be protected from exploitation by private companies.
