Wake up before your CIBIL score gets ruined, here is the easiest way to detect misuse of PAN card. – ..
News India Live, Digital Desk: Today is December 31, 2025, the last day of the year. We’re all making new resolutions for 2026, but have you resolved to your financial security? In the last few months, thousands of such cases have come to light where people did not even know and someone took a personal loan worth lakhs on their PAN card number. Nowadays, many such digital lending apps have come which give small loans only on the photo copy of Aadhaar and PAN, and fraudsters are taking advantage of this.
How is this a scam?
Often we give a photocopy of our PAN card while getting a SIM card, opening a bank account or checking into a hotel. These fraudsters use the same photocopy or number. Using your name and your number, they take the loan into their account. You get the first inkling of this when the time for repaying the loan passes and your ‘credit score’ suddenly falls down.
How to check sitting at home? (Step-by-Step Guide)
It is very easy and takes hardly 2 minutes. You can use any trusted platform like CIBIL.com, Experian or some well-known fintech apps (Paytm, PolicyBazaar, OneScore).
- Go to Credit Report Portal: You search on Google by writing ‘Free Credit Report’ and go to CIBIL website.
- Fill in your details: There you will be asked for your name, mobile number and PAN card number.
- log in: OTP will come on the mobile, as soon as you enter it your CIBIL score will be in front of you.
- Active Loans List: If you scroll down a bit in the report, you will see a list. It is clearly written there that when and how much loan you have taken. If there is a loan amount that you never applied for, then you have been defrauded.
What to do if you see an ‘unknown’ loan in your name?
There is no need to panic after seeing the report, the government has made strict arrangements for this:
- Raise a Dispute: On the CIBIL website itself, you get the option of ‘Raise a Dispute’ against that particular loan. Register your complaint by clicking there.
- Talk to that bank: Immediately write an email to the bank or finance company in whose name the loan is visible.
- Cyber Police Help: For such incidents, immediately register your FIR on ‘cybercrime.gov.in’ portal. This will save you from any legal hassles in future.
Security mantra in 2026: Be alert!
Remember, PAN card is a very important document. Before giving your photocopy anywhere, put the date on it and draw an oblique line and write with a pen “Used only for (काम का नाम)”. This makes it difficult to reuse it.
The years are changing, but scammers are becoming more vicious. Check your credit report today and step into the new year 2026 with peace of mind.
