Superfood mustard oil makes food tasty and takes special care of health.

Mustard oil is an integral part of the Indian kitchen, but many people ignore it considering it to be old fashioned. Mustard oil not only makes food delicious but is also beneficial for health. Mustard oil has special importance in Ayurveda.

Many recent researches show that mustard oil is very beneficial for health and in many cases even competes with olive oil. Nutritionist Pooja Makhija enumerates the benefits of mustard oil and advises to include it in the daily routine. According to Pooja, mustard oil proves helpful in improving heart health, providing antioxidants and controlling inflammation in the body.

This oil contains a good amount of omega-3 fatty acid, which is called alpha-linolenic acid. It increases good cholesterol and reduces inflammation. This reduces the risk of heart related problems. The ratio of monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats in mustard oil is beneficial for the heart. These good fats control bad cholesterol and strengthen the heart.

Allyl isothiocyanate is a special compound in mustard oil, it naturally fights bacteria and fungus, detoxifies the body and prevents some metabolic diseases. These antimicrobial properties make the oil special. Mustard oil has a very high smoke point, around 250 degrees Celsius. So it is perfect for the Indian style of cooking – whether deep frying or adding tadka. Even at high temperatures it does not convert into harmful trans fats, which can happen in other oils.

Mustard oil provides the right balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6, which is less in olive oil. It is more suitable for Indian food. Using it daily in balanced quantity keeps the heart healthy, reduces inflammation and strengthens immunity.

Experts also give easy tips along with mustard oil. Use mustard oil mixed with ghee or sesame oil. This keeps the taste balanced, the food gets cooked in the best way and all types of healthy fats are available. Not only this, in winter, heat mustard oil mixed with carom seeds and then massaging the body, especially the feet, provides energy and also eliminates pain.
