Tragic accident in Chamoli: Loco trains collide in Vishnugarh Hydroelectric Project, creates commotion

Chamoli, 30 December 2025 (Hindustan Reporter). A major accident occurred on Tuesday during shift change at the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) site of the under-construction THDC Vishnugadh Hydroelectric Project located at Pipalkoti in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Two loco trains carrying workers collided inside the tunnel, injuring 60 workers.

As soon as information about the accident was received, District Magistrate Chamoli Gaurav Kumar and Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panwar reached District Hospital Gopeshwar. He inquired about the well being of the injured admitted in the hospital and instructed the doctors to provide better and prompt treatment to all the injured.

The District Magistrate said that according to the information received, about 100 people were present at the spot at the time of the incident, out of which about 60 people were injured. Of these, 42 injured laborers are being treated at District Hospital Gopeshwar and 17 injured laborers are being treated at Swami Vivekananda Hospital, Pipalkoti. The condition of other people is said to be normal.

According to the administration, the condition of all the injured is currently stable and is being continuously monitored by the district administration.
