Pakistani ODI captain Shaheen Afridi suffered a knee cartilage injury while fielding the last over of the match against Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s domestic T20 league on December 27. After this, Brisbane Heat also contacted the medical staff of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), after which it was agreed upon for him to return home for treatment. PCB wants to keep this important player fit before the T20 World Cup 2026.

Shaheen will leave for Pakistan on Wednesday

Shaheen told Telecom Asia Sport that he will take a flight on Wednesday. He will begin his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore later this week. “My injury is not serious, but I have been asked to return to Lahore, where I will begin my rehab,” the 25-year-old fast bowler was quoted as saying on Telecom Asia Sports. I am sure that after a week of rehab, I will start bowling in the next 10 days.”

In an official statement shared by Brisbane Heat, Shaheen said, ‘I have enjoyed playing for Brisbane. Sad that I won’t be able to finish the season with the team. I am thankful to the fans for giving me so much love and support. I am also thankful to the team for their support and their wonderful hospitality. BBL was just as I had heard. I will cheer for the team during recovery. I hope we meet again.”

A source said that the PCB considers Shaheen an important part of the national team’s bowling unit. The board believes that Afridi needs proper rehabilitation, for which Lahore would be perfect. PCB has also appointed renowned sports medicine specialist Dr. Javed Mughal to manage the injury problems in the Pakistani camp.
