New Delhi : The excitement about welcoming the New Year 2026 is at its peak across the country. As the clock is getting closer to midnight, the streets, markets, malls and tourist places of the cities are becoming brighter. People are going out to celebrate the New Year with family and friends. However, to avoid any untoward incident, the police and administration have given top priority to security this time. Unprecedented security arrangements have been made from the capital Delhi to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and big cities of North India.
Strict surveillance and strict restrictions in Delhi
Let us tell you that the security arrangements have been significantly strengthened in the national capital Delhi on the eve of New Year. About 3,000 policemen have been deployed, who will keep an eye on sensitive areas, markets, malls and party zones. Police have identified more than 60 areas where huge crowds are likely to gather during the celebrations. More than 50 checkpoints have been made to prevent drunk driving. Traffic restrictions have been imposed in areas like Connaught Place and India Gate to avoid crowding and jams.
More than 17 thousand soldiers in Mumbai, surveillance through drones
About 17,000 policemen have been deployed in metropolitan Mumbai to make the New Year night safe. Special vigilance is being taken in areas like Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Juhu and Bandra. Drones and policemen in plain clothes are continuously monitoring. The government has allowed restaurants and pubs to remain open till 5 am, but with conditions. There are instructions to take strict action against those who disturb law and order.
Unique initiative in Bengaluru, plan to take drunk people home safely
This time, along with security, humanitarian initiatives are also being seen in IT city Bengaluru. The police will make arrangements to drop people found excessively drunk to their homes safely. Special centers have been created for this. The city is being monitored through more than 20,000 policemen, women security squads, body cameras and hi-tech command centers. Temporary restrictions have also been imposed on many major roads and metro stations.
Beaches and crowded areas closed in Chennai and Kolkata
Beaches have been completely closed in Chennai on New Year night. With the deployment of more than 25,000 policemen, surveillance is being done through drones and CCTV. In Kolkata, additional police force has been deployed at Park Street, Maidan and major tourist places. Special teams have been deployed for women’s safety and the entire city is being monitored from the control room.
Zero tolerance on drunk and drive in Hyderabad, Noida and Gurugram
Intensive testing campaign is being conducted in more than 120 areas in Hyderabad. There has been a warning of cancellation of license and even confiscation of the vehicle for drunk driving. Traffic diversion, special blocks and parking arrangements have also been implemented in Noida and Gurugram. 5,400 policemen and several interstate checkpoints have been set up in Gurugram.
Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur and Dehradun also in alert mode
In view of the New Year and Saras Fair, a detailed traffic plan has been implemented in Patna. A strict campaign against drunk and driving is also going on in Lucknow, Kanpur and Dehradun. Additional security forces are deployed at religious places, malls and hangout points.
Appeal for safe celebration
Police and administration across the country have appealed to citizens to follow the rules, not drive under the influence and immediately report any suspicious activity. The aim of the administration is that people should welcome the New Year without any fear and trouble. Amidst strict security arrangements, the country is ready to welcome 2026 with excitement, enthusiasm and responsibility.
