Matthew Hayden raised questions about Australian batting coach Michael Di Venuto…

New Delhi: Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has expressed his strong opinion about the current Australian batting coach Michael Di Venuto. Hayden has said that he is not a fan of Di Venuto and has seen no improvement in the team’s batting performance under his supervision. He made this comment after the fourth Ashes Test match played against England in Melbourne, when Australia’s batting performance was very poor.

Australia lost the fourth Ashes Test against England in just two days. The Australian team was out for 152 and 132 runs in both the innings. No Australian batsman could reach 50 runs in this match. Seamer Michael Neser scored the most runs in the first innings, while Travis Head scored the most runs in the second innings.

Let us tell you, Hayden said about this poor batting performance, “This is an unacceptable scorecard. I don’t care if there was 50 mm of grass on the pitch, you have to be better than that. Head, Wetherald, Labuschagne, Khawaja, Carey, Green, they are all confused in their basic technique. The only technical thing I see is coming from our bowlers, who look more technically sound than our batsmen.”

Hayden further added, “It’s always been an issue in the cricket team that there is a lack of faces. Michael Di Venuto has been there for at least five years… We need some different generation of coaches who think about how you play. I’m not a fan of his, it’s not a personal thing, but I think there needs to be some change in this group in terms of batting. I don’t think it has helped the development of the team or the technical element of Test match cricket.”

Hayden also said that the Australian team struggles especially in outside conditions. “This is not just on green pitches, but also in countries like the subcontinent, where we see a shortage of the right skills to cope in difficult conditions.” He held Di Venuto responsible for this and said, “At some point you have to take responsibility, especially when the situation is difficult.”

However, Australia lead the current Ashes series 3-1, with wins in Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. England made a comeback and won in Melbourne. Now, the fifth and last Test will be played in Sydney on January 4.
