India’s national highway network crosses 1.46 lakh km, on a new path of development
India’s road network has expanded rapidly in the last 11 years. from india national highway The network (National Highway Network India 2025) has now crossed approximately 1,46,560 kilometers. This represents an increase of nearly 61 percent over the past decade, from 91,287 kilometers in 2014. This achievement has proved to be a milestone in the country’s rapidly growing infrastructure (Infrastructure Development India) and connectivity goals.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the government has strengthened the National Highway Network through Bharat Mala Project, Special Accelerated Road Development Program (North-Eastern Region), road development in Left Wing Extremism affected areas and externally aided projects.
The length of access-controlled high-speed corridors and expressways was only 93 kilometers in 2014, which has now increased to 3,052 kilometers. The length of four-lane and above national highways has increased from 18,371 kilometers to 43,512 kilometers.
The ministry has raised Rs 1,52,028 crore from asset monetization (Road Asset Monetization India) by November 2025 and set a target of Rs 30,000 crore for FY 2025-26. The model concession agreement was updated and the BOT system was revamped to increase private participation.

According to the Union Budget 2025-26, there will be an investment of Rs 8.3 lakh crore under the 13,400 km PPP Highway Projects pipeline in the next three years.
Under Bharat Mala Project, 35 multimodal logistics parks will be built with an investment of Rs 46,000 crore, which will be capable of handling 70 crore metric tonnes of cargo.
For the convenience of users, state-of-the-art way-side amenities (Highway Way-Side Facilities India) will be developed at an interval of 40-60 kilometers on the National Highway.
Under Parvatmala Project, urban connectivity and logistics efficiency will be increased by developing ropeway infrastructure in hilly areas.
Thus, India’s National Highway network has not only increased in length but is also preparing for future road infrastructure through modern facilities and private participation.
