1 – Commercial LPG cylinder becomes costlier by ₹ 111. From January 1, 2026, 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has become costlier by ₹ 111.
Delhi: Increase from ₹1580.50 to ₹1691.50
Mumbai: Increase from ₹1531.50 to ₹1642.50
However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders.
Railway ticket booking rules changed from 2-12 January
From January 12, 2026, it will be mandatory to link Aadhaar to book reserved tickets on IRCTC. Passengers whose account is not linked to Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets from 8 am to 12 midnight. This rule will be applicable only on the first day of booking (i.e. 60 days before travel). Its purpose is to stop fake booking and to give tickets to more passengers.

4 – CNG and PNG became cheaper
Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has reduced the gas transportation charge. Due to this, the prices of CNG and domestic PNG may reduce by ₹ 2–3 per unit.
5 – Aviation fuel is cheap, air tickets can become cheaper.
Oil companies have reduced the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) by about ₹ 7,000 per kiloliter. Its price in Delhi has come down to ₹ 92,323.02 per kiloliter. This will reduce the cost of airlines and air tickets are likely to become cheaper in the coming days.
Salary may increase due to 6th – 8th Pay Commission
The Central Government has announced the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. Although its timeline is not clear, it is likely to be implemented from January 2026. This may lead to a big increase in the salary, pension and allowances of central employees.

Current Basic Salary: ₹35,400
Total salary under 7th Pay Commission: ~₹65,500
After 8th Pay Commission: May be more than ₹1,10,000
Fitment factor is the coefficient by which the new salary is determined by multiplying the existing basic salary. The beginning of the new year has been mixed for the common people. While the prices of fuel and cars have increased, there has been relief in CNG, PNG and air travel. Also, once the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, there may be a big jump in the income of employees.
