Swearing in at historic subway station
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the old City Hall subway station, one of New York’s original subway stops and known for its grand vaulted ceilings. The event was organized by Letitia James, Attorney General of New York and Mamdani’s political ally.

Zohran Mamdani will take the oath again in a public ceremony at City Hall at 1 pm. This oath will be administered to him by American Senator Bernie Sanders, who is among his political ideals. This will be followed by a public block party in Broadway’s famous “Canyon of Heroes”, famous for its ticker-tape parade.

His key election promises include free child care, free bus service, a freeze on fare increases for about 10 lakh families and a pilot scheme for city-run grocery stores.
Along with this, they will also have to deal with the day-to-day administrative tasks of the city like garbage collection, snow removal, metro delays and potholes on the roads. Apart from this, Mamdani has also promised to make New York City affordable.
