Switzerland Blast Death Toll: A massive explosion occurred on the morning of New Year in Switzerland’s prestigious and luxury ski resort town of Crans-Montana. So far, about 40 people have been reported dead in this accident, while many others are said to be injured. According to Gaëtan Lathies, spokesman for the Valais canton police in south-western Switzerland, the case is being investigated from every aspect.

Immediately after the blast, police and emergency services teams reached the spot and relief and rescue operations were started. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals and investigation is going on by cordoning off the entire area in view of security. According to the police, the blast occurred when New Year celebrations were going on at the resort. The blast took place around 1:30 in the night when people were attending a party.

Fireworks could be the reason

According to Flightradar, a Rega helicopter was seen landing at the crash site. According to information surfacing on social media, the explosion occurred during a concert. Some unconfirmed reports have claimed that the use of fireworks may have been a factor in the accident, although police have not yet confirmed these claims.

Signs of explosion in basement

A police spokesperson said that more than 100 people were present inside the bar at the time of the explosion. According to RTS reports, the blast occurred in the basement of the bar. The total capacity of the bar was around 400 people.

According to local radio station RonFM, a mistake in the operation of fireworks could have been the cause of the tragedy. Many people have confirmed this from the station. The death toll is feared to be much higher. RonFM says several dozen people may have died, while local news outlet Blick puts the death toll at around 40.

The Cross Montana area where this incident took place is considered to be a famous and very luxurious hill station of Switzerland. It is in the Valais canton, located in the south-western part of the country and is particularly known for its ski resorts, breathtaking views and high-end lifestyle. Crans Montana is situated at an altitude of about 1,500 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Alps mountain range.
