Mercury dropped by 10 degrees in Himachal, Meteorological Department issued alert for these districts

The weather has once again taken a turn in Himachal Pradesh and the mountains are covered with snow. Intermittent snowfall on the higher peaks of the state for the last 24 hours has forced the entire state to shiver. Fresh snowfall has been recorded in areas like Udaipur, Rohtang Pass, Kunjam Pass, Shinkula and Baralacha in Lahaul-Spiti district. Due to this snowfall, the temperature has suddenly fallen and severe cold has started in the valley.

Snowfall will continue even today

According to the Meteorological Department, there is little hope of relief at present. The department has predicted snowfall in the upper areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Chamba districts even today. At the same time, light rain is forecast in medium altitude areas like Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Mandi. In view of this changing pattern of weather, ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for rain and snowfall in many areas.

Cold wave wreaks havoc in the plains

The direct impact of this snowfall on the mountains is being seen in the plains. In Una, the cold broke all records in the last 24 hours, where a huge drop of 10.6 degrees was recorded in the temperature. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of ‘cold wave’ today in Una as well as Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Sirmaur and Kullu districts. Apart from this, people of Mandi district may have to face dense fog, due to which visibility is likely to be low.
