Once again serious concerns have arisen regarding the safety of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. In the latest case, news of brutal murder of a Hindu man allegedly by a mob has come to light. According to reports, the attackers first attacked with sharp weapons, then beat them and finally set them on fire. This heart-wrenching incident has spread panic in the entire area.
Another Hindu man Khokon Das was attacked by a violent group in Bangladesh. 50 year old Das was injured in the attack. Later the mob set him on fire. He died in agony amidst the flames. This incident happened on 31 December in Shariatpur district of the country.
Khokon Das was going home at the time of the incident in Hussaindanga area of Kalimohar Union of Bangladesh. Then the mob attacked him with sharp weapons. They were beaten and set on fire. This is the fourth attack on a Hindu in Bangladesh.
Which Hindus have been murdered so far?
On December 24, another 29-year-old Hindu youth, Amrit Mandal, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Husaindanga area of Kalimohar Union in Bangladesh.
Earlier on December 18, a 25-year-old Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, was beaten to death by a mob at a factory in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka upazila on false blasphemy allegations by a Muslim co-worker. Not only this, after Das’s death, the Muslim mob hanged his body from a tree and set it on fire.
Violence against minorities, including Hindus, is increasing in Bangladesh under the Yunus-led interim government, which has angered people and many human rights organizations around the world.
Last week, the Indian government expressed deep concern over the continuing hostility against minorities (including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists) in Bangladesh and said it was closely monitoring developments in its neighboring country.
