GST collections rise 6.1% in December 2025 to Rs 1.74 lakh crore

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased 6.1% year-on-year in December 2025with the government mopping up Rs 1.74 lakh croreaccording to provisional data released on Thursday.

During the month, Central GST (CGST) collections stood at Rs 34,289 crorewhile State GST (SGST) collections came in at Rs 41,368 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) collections were recorded at Rs 98,894 crorereflecting steady revenue inflows from both domestic transactions and imports.

In addition, the government collected Rs 4,551 crore through the GST compensation cesswhich continues as a transitional arrangement until the full settlement of loans and interest liabilities arising from the compensation mechanism.

GST refunds during December amounted to Rs 18,422 croremarking a sharp 62% increase compared with the same month last yearindicating faster processing and higher refund outflows.

The December numbers suggest stable GST revenue performance toward the end of 2025, supported by consistent consumption trends and compliance levels across sectors.
