Regarding the song ‘Aaj Mere Piya Ghar Aavenge’ played at weddings, there is a perception among the people that the bride is dressing up for her Piya and preparing to welcome her, but it is not so. This song shows the union of soul and God.
The first line of the song ‘Hey Ri Sakhi Mangal Gao Ri, Dharti Ambar Sajao Ri, Aaj Utregi Pi Ki Sawaari’ means that a soul, which has left the body, is excited to meet its God i.e. its ‘Pi’. The soul is ‘grooming’ itself, freeing itself from bad karma and now wants to meet its ‘P’.
Kailash Kher himself had revealed that he was inspired to create the song by death itself. He himself had told that on 21st November, my father was shouting and singing the hymns of Hare Ram and God, which did not seem normal.
He was absorbed in his God and only the name of ‘God’ was on his face. I asked him, Dad, are you okay? But then he gave up his life, but there was happiness and peace on his face, as if he had become complete by meeting his God.
He said that my father had realized that today he was going to merge in God and he was happy and at peace. Kailash was devastated after his father’s death, because it was his father who had given him the knowledge of music. Even on the day of his father’s death, he gave a live performance on stage, because at that time he was going through a period of struggle in his career.
It was only after the death of his father that he expressed this relationship between soul and God in a song through words and made a poignant song. The singer had said that this song is very special for him, because it reminds him of his father.
