GST Collection December 2025: In December 2025, the government’s GST revenue was slightly higher than the previous year. According to the data, about Rs 1 lakh 75 thousand crore came in the form of GST this month.
The numbers are fine, but the market condition does not look that strong. The purchases made within the country did not increase taxes as much as was expected.

Internal expenditure slowed down, goods coming from outside took care of the matter
In December, GST from domestic transactions was around Rs 1.22 lakh crore. There was not much speed seen in it. On the contrary, the government got good tax on goods coming from outside. GST from imports reached about Rs 52 thousand crores. Overall, imports handled the collection.

More refund, less money in hand
This month the government also gave more GST refund. About Rs 29 thousand crores were returned. The GST left with the government after refund was about Rs 1.45 lakh crore. There has been an increase, but it is slight.
This time the revenue from cess has also decreased significantly. While Rs 12,000 crore were deposited in December last year, this time it has come down to around Rs 4,000 crore.

The situation for the whole year is still fine
If we look from April to December 2025, a total of about Rs 16.5 lakh crore was collected from GST. This is more than last year. Last year GST had made a record. More than Rs 22 lakh crore tax was collected in the entire year. This means that the system has become stronger in the long run, but in just a few months it is becoming sluggish.

If taxes are reduced then the effect is visible
GST was reduced on many things in September 2025. About 375 items became cheaper. People got relief.
But the reduction in taxes was sure to affect the government’s earnings. Now cess is being charged only on some items like tobacco. Due to this the collection also reduced.

Now what next?
Experts say that this slowdown will not last long. As soon as the expenditure in the market increases, GST collection may also improve.
At present the picture is that the government got relief in December, but domestic expenditure still remains weak.
