Palestine Flag On Helmet: Police Summon J&K Cricketer
Jammu: A Jammu & Kashmir cricketer is in the eye of a storm for displaying the Palestine flag on his helmet.
Furqan Bhat wore a helmet with the image of Palestine flag while batting for JK11 team in the Jammu & Kashmir Champions League match against Jammu Trailblazers on Wednesday.
As the image went viral on social media, Jammu Rural Police summoned Furqan for questioning in connection with his ‘act’.
Zahid Bhat, organiser of the league, and the person who provided the ground for the match will also be questioned, as an investigation is underway.
“One cricket player and organiser of the tournament have been called for questioning by J&K Police regarding the use of the Palestine Flag on his helmet during a cricket match at a private tournament in Jammu,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.
The police action came after photos and videos of Bhatt wearing Palestine flag on his helmet went viral on social media.
The Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association has distanced itself from the J&K Champions League.
Furqan’s act of displaying the Palestine flag comes amid worldwide protests against the war between Israel and Palestine militant group Hamas in Gaza, which has killed thousands of innocents including children.
Like Furqan, lakhs support the Palestinians’ demand for statehood.
