Actually, India and Sri Lanka are the joint hosts of T20 2026. In such a situation, the national selectors of Cricket Australia have selected a team full of spinners for the T20 World Cup, while Hobart Hurricanes star Mitchell Owen, who hits big shots, is the most special player to be left out of the 15-member team. The winners of the 2021 tournament also did not pick a left-arm pacer in the absence of Mitchell Starc and Spencer Johnson, preferring Brisbane Heat strike bowler Xavier Bartlett over Sixers’ Ben Dwarshuis.
Cooper Connolly, who has not played in any of Australia’s last 12 T20 Internationals, gets a surprise entry, while Matthew Short, Matthew Kuhnman and Bartlett are also in line to make their World Cup debut in the tournament starting on February 7. Johnson was being considered as Mitchell Starc’s successor in this format, in which left-arm seamers are given a lot of importance, but the Heat’s star player is struggling with a back injury.
Cummings, who is recovering from a back injury and played in only his third Ashes Test in Adelaide, will undergo a scan later this month to determine his availability for the finals squad. However, chairman of selectors George Bailey said Cummings, Hazlewood and David are “doing well” in their recovery and expressed confidence that all three will be fit in time for the tournament.
Mitchell Marsh will once again captain the side, while Cameron Green returns to the side after missing the T20I match against India in the summer. Josh Inglis is the only wicketkeeper who has been selected in the team. Glenn Maxwell is also a part of this team.
