Tremendous jump in Vodafone Idea shares, know what is the connection of Rs 5,836 crore
Vodafone Idea Share: Shares of telecom company Vodafone Idea rose by about 9 percent on January 1, 2026. The share price rose to a high of Rs 11.75 on BSE. The market capitalization of the company increased to Rs 1.27 lakh crore. The company has signed an important agreement with Vodafone Group.

Under this agreement, the company will get Rs 5,836 crore from Vodafone Group. According to the regulatory filing, this amount will be given under the re-settlement of liability claim agreement between the two companies.
As per the new agreement, Vodafone Group promoters will release Rs 2,307 crore to Vodafone Idea in the next 12 months. Apart from this, Vodafone Group has also set aside 328 million of its shares for the benefit of Vodafone Idea.

Under the CLAM agreement, the maximum exposure for Vodafone at the time of merger was fixed at Rs 8,369 crore. Keeping in mind the old payments, it was reduced to Rs 6,394 crore. After the extension, the deadline for this agreement was 31 December 2025.
Relief from government on AGR dues
Recently the government has given big relief to Vodafone Idea. Under this, the company has been given a moratorium of 5 years to pay AGR dues. According to reports, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to freeze AGR dues of Rs 87,695 crore of Vodafone Idea Limited.

Payment of AGR Dues
Now the company will have to pay this amount between the financial years 2031-32 to 2040-41. However, during the financial year 2025-26 to 2030-31, AGR dues related to financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 will have to be paid as per the earlier terms.
AGR i.e. Adjusted Gross Revenue is the income on the basis of which telecom companies pay license fees and spectrum usage charges to the government. Apart from telecom, it also includes non-telecom income like interest, rent and property sale. At present the government has 49 percent stake in Vodafone Idea.

Vodafone Idea Share performance
Shares of Vodafone Idea have increased by about 60 percent in the last 6 months and about 40 percent in the last 3 months. By the end of September 2025, promoters held 25.57 percent stake in the company.
The company’s consolidated net loss declined year-on-year to Rs 5,524 crore in the July-September 2025 quarter. A year ago this loss was Rs 7,175.9 crore. At the same time, consolidated revenue from operations increased by 2.4 percent to Rs 11,195 crore, which was Rs 10,932.2 crore in the September 2024 quarter.
