‘The machine is telling that you are a Bangladeshi…’ UP Police’s video goes viral on social media

Uttar Pradesh Police has once again become a subject of debate on social media regarding its working style. This time the matter is of Ghaziabad, where an alleged ‘Operation Torch’ of the police has come into discussion. Usually, Aadhaar card, passport or other official documents are required to check the citizenship of a person, but in a video going viral, it appears that the police have adopted a completely different and controversial method for this.

Video of 23 December

In a viral video on social media, SHO of Kaushambi police station area of Ghaziabad, Ajay Sharma is seen checking the citizenship of a person by placing a mobile phone on his back. In the video he can be heard saying, “The machine is telling that this person is Bangladeshi.” However, in the video, no special device is seen in his hand, but only a normal mobile phone. Local people say that the person concerned is a resident of Araria district of Bihar and works in a slum. It is being told that this video is from 23rd December.

As soon as the video surfaced, there was a flood of questions and reactions on social media. Many people wondered what kind of technology is this to identify citizenship, which declares someone a foreigner just by placing the mobile phone on the back. Many users raised questions on the functioning of the police, calling it serious negligence, while some people also started making memes and sarcastic comments about this incident.

Ghaziabad Police and CRP team are running the operation

Actually, this video is said to be taken during an intensive search operation conducted by Ghaziabad Police and CRP team. This campaign was conducted in Bhowapur and Bihari Market areas of Kaushambi police station area with the aim of identifying foreign citizens living illegally. During this time, people living in slums and residential areas were interrogated and their identity cards were checked.

According to the police, Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport and other valid documents were checked in the campaign. The CRP team that came from Meerut was led by Assistant Commandant Dipu Raman Singh Raghuvanshi. Police say that such campaigns will continue further and strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal activities.

However, after the video went viral, the police department is facing criticism. Till now no official statement has been issued by the Ghaziabad Police Administration on this entire matter, due to which the controversy is deepening.
