Stock Market Today:The Indian stock market welcomed the New Year 2026 with a strong bullishness. In the first trading session on January 1, both the major indices, Sensex and Nifty opened in the green and saw significant investor enthusiasm. The market maintained its upward momentum even in the initial period due to global cues and domestic buying. Stocks like Vodafone Idea and Wipro further strengthened market sentiment.
Today the BSE Sensex opened up around 196 points at 85,416, adding to investors’ wealth. The Nifty 50 index of the national stock market is also trading up 64 points at 26,194. This early rise in the market suggests that 2026 could be a profitable year for investors.

The Bank Nifty also opened up 95 points at 59,678, indicating confidence in the banking sector. Midcap and smallcap indices also followed suit, with the Nifty Midcap trading around 60,578. As buying is seen in the broader market, small and medium investors are also expected to benefit well today.
In early market trade, investors were delighted with stocks like Wipro, M&M and Shriram Finance registering the highest gains. Shares of Zomato (Eternal) and InterGlobe Aviation also saw significant buying, making them the top gainers. Additionally, major stocks like HDFC Bank and Infosys also played an important role in driving the index higher.

During the boom, ITC, Dr. A few big stocks like Reddy’s Lab and ONGC saw slight selling pressure. Shares of Cipla and Bajaj Finance also fell, after showing gains in the opening session. However, the overall market bullishness was so strong that the fall in these stocks did not have any negative impact on the index.
Market experts believe that the Nifty close to 26,200 is a strong signal technically. Such a positive market performance on the first day of the year sets a good foundation for the coming days. Investors are advised to hold on to quality stocks and buy at the right time to take advantage of this new market high.
