Fire broke out in the bar before the explosion

Police said most of the dead were tourists visiting Crans-Montana during the holiday season. This ski resort is internationally famous and is visited by a large number of tourists every year.

Speed ​​up relief and rescue operations

Relief and rescue operations were carried out rapidly at the scene and 10 helicopters, 40 ambulances and 150 rescue personnel were dispatched. There are difficulties in identifying the dead because their bodies are completely burnt. Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed grief over the incident, saying it was an incident that turned New Year’s joy into mourning.

No fly zone implemented

The burn unit of Niguarda Hospital in Milan, Italy has also been deployed to treat the injured. Police have ruled out the incident as a terrorist attack and are continuing to investigate it as an accident. The site has been completely cordoned off and a no-fly zone has been imposed over Crans-Montana.
