Record sales in electric two-wheeler market, TVS becomes number-1, Ola’s reign ends
Electric Two Wheeler Sales 2025: The year 2025 has proved to be historic for the Indian auto industry, especially in the electric two-wheeler segment. Last year, sales of electric two-wheelers created a new record and companies were successful in selling a total of 12.8 lakh units. During this period, a major upheaval was seen in the market, where TVS Motor Company achieved the first position in the electric two-wheeler segment, while the hold of Ola Electric, which was leading for a long time, weakened.
TVS becomes EV two-wheeler market leader
According to statistics, TVS Motor Company sold a record 2,98,967 electric scooters in the year 2025. With this the company reached the top position in the electric two-wheeler market. At the same time, Ola Electric’s three-year old lead was broken. There was a huge decline of 51 percent in the company’s sales, after which Ola slipped to fourth place.
Two-wheeler dominance in EV sales
If we talk about the electric vehicle (EV) market across India, a record annual retail sales of 22.7 lakh units were recorded in the year 2025. For the first time in the month of November, EV sales crossed the mark of 20 lakh units. The biggest contribution in this was from the electric two-wheeler segment. Of the 22,70,425 EVs sold across all four zero-emission segments together, about 12.8 lakh units (56 percent) were electric scooters, motorcycles and mopeds.
Sales increased more than last year
Sales of electric two-wheelers increased by 11 percent compared to the year 2024. After the GST cut in September, the difference in prices of petrol and electric two-wheelers also reduced, due to which customers turned towards EVs. A total of 2.029 crore two-wheelers were sold in India during 2025, of which the share of electric two-wheelers was 6.30 percent, which is more than the 6.07 percent share in 2024.

Ola’s decline hinders market momentum
Experts believe that the performance of the e-2W industry could have been better in 2025, had the sales of last year’s market leader Ola Electric not been so weak. Ola’s sales fell below 2 lakh units, which slowed down growth somewhat.
Why is the demand for electric two-wheelers increasing?
Although the initial price of electric two-wheelers is higher than petrol vehicles, the benefits of low running cost, less maintenance, more model options and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) are attracting customers. Apart from this, increasing demand for last-mile delivery, e-commerce and food delivery in urban, town and rural areas is also giving a huge boost to the sales of electric two-wheelers, especially for fleet operators.
