Middle-aged man dies in road accident in Lohardaga, people block road
Lohardagah After the death of a middle-aged man after being hit by an unknown vehicle in Chatti of Bhandra police station area of the district, angry people blocked Powerganj Chowk of Lohardaga city on Thursday demanding compensation. The road jam lasted for about one and a half hours, due to which the city’s traffic system completely collapsed. Due to road jam on the first day of New Year, tourists as well as common people had to remain stuck in the traffic jam for hours. Many drivers were seen wandering in search of alternative routes. Due to the road jam, there was a queue of vehicles all around the road and the pedestrians had to face a lot of trouble. The relatives and villagers blocking the road demanded payment of compensation to the dependents of the deceased as per the government provision and strict action against the guilty driver by immediately identifying the unknown vehicle.

The protesters said that the jam will not be removed until concrete assurance is given. It is said that in a tragic accident on Wednesday night near Jagtu Hotel on Bhandra-Chatti main road under Bhandra police station area, a middle-aged man crossing the road was hit hard by an unknown vehicle, due to which he died on the spot. After the accident, the driver fled with the vehicle. The deceased was identified as Ramchandra Prajapati (50 years), son of late Ishwar Sahu, resident of Areya village of Bagdu police station area. As soon as information about the incident was received, relatives and local people reached the spot. In protest against the accident, angry villagers along with the victim’s family blocked National Highway 143A at Powerganj Chowk in Lohardaga city, demanding compensation. Due to road jam, queues of vehicles formed all around. There was a complete standstill on the highway for one and a half hours due to which the passengers and pedestrians had to face a lot of trouble. After receiving information about the road jam, Sadar police station started the process of removing the road jam.

Meanwhile, Bhandra zonal officer and Bhandra police station in-charge reached the spot. The officers talked to the angry people and calmed them down. The officials assured to investigate the matter seriously, scrutinize CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and take appropriate action as per government rules on compensation and other demands. After the assurance of the administration, the relatives and villagers removed the road jam, after which the traffic gradually became normal. The police took the body into custody and handed it over to the relatives after post-mortem.
