ARTOs of Lucknow, Rae Bareli and Fatehpur suspended in overloaded truck bribery case

Lucknow. There has been a stir in the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department after the expose of a big corruption syndicate involved in passing heavy tax recovery from overloaded vehicles. On Thursday, ARTO enforcer Rajeev Kumar Bansal of Lucknow, ARTO Ambuj of Rae Bareli and ARTO Pushpanjali Mitra of Fatehpur have been suspended. A departmental inquiry has been started by attaching all the officers to the headquarters.

The investigation of the case has been handed over to Jhansi Deputy Transport Commissioner KD Singh Gaur. This action has been taken when last November the STF had exposed the syndicate that got overloaded trucks of Maurang, Gitti and Balu passed by taking bribe. In this case, FIR was registered in Madiyav of Lucknow, Lalganj of Rae Bareli and Unnao. The names of about 25 people involved in the investigation came to light, including top officials of the transport department and brokers.

According to sources, Rajeev Kumar Bansal is missing after the FIR. His mobile is switched off and he has taken leave citing health reasons. It is being told that he had applied for anticipatory bail, which was rejected. A case has been registered under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the officers and employees involved in this big game of recovery from overloaded vehicles. This suspension action has taken place after 48 days of long silence.

Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh had already suspended PTO Manoj Kumar of Lucknow, Rehana Bano of Rae Bareli and Akhilesh Chaturvedi of Fatehpur. Apart from this, Lucknow’s enforcement supervisor Anuj, Unnao’s enforcement supervisor Inderjeet Singh, enforcement constables Ranjeet Kumar and Pradeep Singh, and Rae Bareli’s enforcement driver Naushad have also been suspended.

This corruption revelation has created a stir in the transport department and has raised questions as to why there was so much delay in action despite such a big game. Special investigation underway – STF and the transport department team are investigating the matter thoroughly and names of more officers are expected to come out in the next few days.
