Political uproar due to IPL auction of Bangladeshi player, Sangeet Som made serious allegations against Shahrukh Khan
A statement by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sangeet Som has once again brought politics and sports face to face. This time, Bollywood actor and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shahrukh Khan and Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman have become the center of controversy. Let us tell you that Shahrukh Khan had bought Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL auction held in December last year.
On Wednesday, during a public meeting and voter amendment workshop in Meerut, Sangeet Som made a scathing attack on Shahrukh Khan. He alleged that Shahrukh Khan bought Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for around Rs 9 crore in the IPL auction held in December last year. Som described Shahrukh Khan as a ‘traitor’ and claimed that he has no right to live in India.
Shahrukh’s decision is against the interest of the country!
Sangeet Som said that on one hand there are reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, while on the other hand players from there are being bought on a big platform like IPL. He alleged that amid the anti-India environment, such decisions are against the interests of the country. Som even warned that if Mustafizur Rahman comes to India for the upcoming IPL season, the situation will not be good for him and he will not even be able to leave the airport.
Religious and political reactions
Apart from Sangeet Som, spiritual guru Devkinandan Thakur also criticized KKR and Shahrukh Khan and called this decision wrong. Echoing him, Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya also made strong remarks on Shahrukh Khan. Apart from this, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey said that if Shahrukh Khan removes Mustafizur from his team, he will be respected, but if money is earned by feeding him, then there is a possibility of misuse of that money.
Congress’s statement in support of Shahrukh
Amidst the controversy, Congress leaders supported Shahrukh Khan. Congress MP Manikam Tagore wrote on social media that an artist "traitor" To say this is an attack on India’s diversity and pluralism. He appealed to stop the politics of hatred.
Congress leader Tariq Anwar also said that any foreign player is allowed to play in IPL as per the Cricket Board and international rules. Shahrukh Khan cannot take this decision alone. Only when there is approval from the board and the government, a player can come to India.
Reaction of Muslim organizations
Many Muslim religious and social organizations also reacted to this controversy. President of Imam Association, Maulana Sajid Rashidi said that protesting without thinking is becoming a habit in India. He alleged that whenever the name of a Muslim comes, protests start immediately.
All India Muslim Jamaat President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi said that Indian Muslims are also worried about the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. In such a situation, inclusion of any cricketer in the team cannot be called treason.
AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan condemned the atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh, but also raised the question why so much anger is shown only in the matter of cricket. He reminded that matches like India-Pakistan are also played with the permission of the government.
