Even before this, Australian team’s opening batsman Usman Khawaja has announced his retirement. After a long career of 15 years, he is going to play his last match in Sydney. He shared his decision of retirement through a press conference on Friday. He is the first player to retire in the year 2026.

Usman Khawaja announced his retirement through a press conference, during which his wife and two children were present. The cricketer has also released an emotional video on his official Instagram account. In which he is meeting his family emotionally. In the comment section, fans have wished Usman all the best for the new phase of his life. Usman said in his retirement speech that,

“I’m happy to be leaving with dignity on my own terms and playing at my favorite Sydney Cricket Ground but I think it was a tough start to the series. Then not being picked for the opening matches in Adelaide probably gave me the signal that ‘Okay, it’s time to move on.'”

Decline in career since last 2 years

The last 2 years were nothing special for left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja, his downfall started from the year 2024 and he was moved in and out of the team. This year he scored only 415 runs in 18 innings of 9 matches with a meager average of 25. After this, in the year 2025, Usman scored 614 runs in 18 innings of 10 matches at an average of 36.

Started career in 2011

Usman Khawaja started his career in the year 2011. So far in his career, he has added 6206 runs to his account in 87 Tests at an average of 43. This includes 28 fifties and 16 centuries. He also got a chance to play 40 One Day Internationals, in which he scored 1554 runs. However, after the year 2019, he was not selected in this format.
