Patna: There was an encounter between police and criminals in Khagaul area of the capital Patna on Friday morning. The criminal was seriously injured in an encounter between the police and notorious criminal manager Rai. According to local police sources, Manager Rai was involved in several serious crimes and arrest warrants were issued against him in serious cases like extortion, robbery and murder.

Police said that Manager Rai was involved in more than a dozen serious cases, especially the murder of Dr Mohammad Anwar Alam. His gang had created an atmosphere of terror in Khagaul and surrounding areas for a long time. At around 6:00 in the morning, the police surrounded the criminal in the main area of Khagaul. The police gave him a chance to surrender, but he started firing at the police. In response to this, the police also retaliated and manager Rai was injured by the bullet. Local people witnessed this encounter and there was huge tension at the spot.

The injured criminal was immediately admitted to Patna AIIMS Hospital. Hospital sources said that his condition is currently stable and the police is ensuring his safety. Police said the encounter has created an atmosphere of fear among criminals in the area.

According to the police, Manager Rai has a very long criminal record. He was active in serious crimes like extortion, robbery and murder. His arrest is likely to bring a new twist in many old cases. Officials said that any laxity against such criminals will not be tolerated. Police patrolling has been increased in Khagaul and surrounding areas to prevent any untoward incident. Police further said that other criminals associated with Manager Rai will be identified and arrested. They fear that other members of the gang may be planning to commit some major crime. Therefore, special vigilance is being taken in the area.
