Venus Williams makes Hhstory with Aus Open wildcard at 45 – Tezzbuzz
The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion last played at the Australian Open in 2021 and has not competed at Melbourne Park for five years. She first appeared at the event 28 years ago, making this year’s entry a full-circle moment in her long and distinguished career.
Williams has twice finished as runner-up at the Australian Open, losing to her sister Serena Williams in the finals in 2003 and 2017. Despite never winning the title, she holds a strong overall record at the tournament and remains one of the most influential figures in modern tennis.
Her wildcard comes after a competitive return to the sport; she participated in several events in 2025 following a period out of the tour due to health issues. Williams said she is excited to return to Australia and compete again in the summer season.
