Karnataka: Election Commission’s survey shows EVM is correct, BJP surrounds Congress
Bengaluru. The Congress-led Karnataka government has shown strong public confidence in EVMs in the survey conducted for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After this survey came out, Bharatiya Janata Party also hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had raised questions on the credibility of the election process. The title of the survey was ‘Evaluation of the last survey conducted on knowledge, attitudes and behavior of citizens’. In this, 83.61 percent participants said that they have confidence in EVMs. Overall, 69.39 percent of the participants agreed that EVMs give correct results, while 14.22 percent completely agreed with this. The survey was conducted among 5,100 participants in 102 assembly constituencies. It included the administrative areas of Bangalore, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Mysore. The survey was conducted by the Karnataka government through Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar. The highest level of trust in the data was seen in Kalaburagi, where 83.24 per cent agreed and 11.24 per cent strongly agreed that EVMs were reliable. In Mysore, 70.67 percent agreed and 17.92 percent completely agreed. In Belagavi, 63.90 percent agreed and 21.43 percent completely agreed. Complete consent was lowest in Bengaluru at 9.28 percent. However, 63.67 percent agreed. In Bangalore, neutral votes were highest at 15.67 percent.
BJP hit back
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has many times accused the BJP and the Central Election Commission (ECI) of EVM rigging and ‘vote theft’. Responding to the results of this survey, Karnataka’s Leader of Opposition R. Ashok wrote on But Karnataka has told a completely different story. The BJP said the statewide survey showed that people trust elections, EVMs and India’s democratic process. This, he said, is ‘a slap’ on the face of Congress. The BJP criticized the Karnataka government for using local body election ballot papers. The party said, despite the clear confidence of the public, the Siddaramaiah government is taking Karnataka backward. The declaration of ballots in local elections is difficult, which is known for manipulation, delay and abuse. At the same time, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC also reacted to the latest survey conducted by the Karnataka government on the election process. The Congress party and (MP) Rahul Gandhi never trusted the free and fair election process, he said. He said, Karnataka Monitoring and Evaluation Authority (KMEA) conducted this survey on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which 5,100 people participated. The survey was conducted in 102 assembly constituencies across the state from Bengaluru to Belgaum and Mysore and 91.3 per cent people believed that the elections were free and fair. Shaina NC further said, this puts an end to all doubts on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and the Election Commission. I think now the time has come for Rahul Gandhi and Congress Party to apologize to the country because they have only spread lies and here you have seen that this puts an end to these claims forever. This is a huge slap on the face in terms of independent agencies and fair functioning of a strong democracy.
