Alert of severe cold and fog in Delhi-NCR from December 28, chill will increase on New Year

Due to already active western disturbance in many parts of the country, rain and cold have increased the problems of the people. Especially in Delhi-NCR, the continuous moderate to dense fog and falling temperatures have increased the chill considerably. Looking at the weather patterns, it is estimated that just before the New Year celebrations, the cold wave may become even more severe. A new western disturbance is going to be active, which will make the weather extremely challenging in entire North India including Delhi-NCR from 28th December till the last day of the year i.e. 31st December.

The weather will start changing from Sunday itself, the minimum temperature may drop to 6 to 8 degrees Celsius on 28 and 29 December.

The impact of this new western disturbance will start being felt from Sunday itself. A yellow alert has been issued in view of the possibility of moderate to dense fog in the morning. There is a possibility of partly cloudy sky in Delhi and surrounding areas, due to which the temperature will continue to fall. It is estimated that the temperature may drop to 6 to 8 degrees Celsius on 28 and 29 December. Due to the presence of clouds, there will be very little sunlight, due to which people will feel extreme shivering and severe cold even during the day. More or less the same situation is going to prevail in the entire NCR.

The city will be wrapped in dense fog, road and air traffic may be adversely affected, passengers advised to be cautious

With the change in weather, visibility may remain very low due to moderate to dense fog in the morning. The direct impact of reduced visibility can be seen on road and air traffic. The speed of vehicles may slow down and operation of flights may also be disrupted. In such a situation, travelers leaving home need to take extra caution. People traveling by air have been specially advised to check the information related to their flight before leaving for the airport, so that they do not have to face any problem.

There is hope of improvement in the level of pollution due to strong winds, but the chill will increase, the beginning of the new year is also likely to be amidst severe cold.

In the coming days, there is a possibility of strong winds on 29th and 30th December, which will bring relief on one side and disaster on the other. Due to winds blowing at a speed of about 10-15 kilometers per hour, the amount of pollutants present in the atmosphere will reduce and a slight improvement in air quality may be seen. However, due to these strong winds, the ‘wind chill factor’ will increase, due to which the cold will sting the body more. The new year is also likely to begin with similar cold winds and fog. On December 31 and January 1, the temperature can remain between 8 to 11 degrees Celsius, which means that the New Year will have to be welcomed in severe cold.
