The Ministry of Defense on Tuesday signed a contract worth Rs 4,666 crore to procure over 4.25 lakh close-quarter battle carbines and 48 heavy topendos. The ministry said it signed an agreement worth Rs 2,770 crore with Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd. Under this contract, carbines and necessary equipment will be procured. It said, ‘This is an effort to equip Indian soldiers with world-class firepower and replace old systems with cutting-edge indigenous technology. In the age of increasing technology, the use of sophisticated indigenous equipment is important for the defense of the country.

These steps are being taken under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.’ The Indian Navy will procure 48 heavy torpedoes and related equipment for its Kalvari-class submarines. A deal worth around Rs 1,896 crore was signed with Italy’s Vas Submarine Systems SRL. The Ministry of Defense said the purchase will increase the combat capability of six Kalvari-class submarines. This will give the Navy a modern weapon to destroy enemy submarines. It will be easy to wage war which will keep an eye on India’s sea area.
A day ago, the Ministry of Defense had approved the contract worth 79 thousand crores. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting was chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Then this decision was taken.
